Ecological tradition in Terra Alta
Four generations linked to sustainable viticulture
The family winery Vins Algars has been producing organic wines with native varieties from Terra Alta since 1940. Thirty-two hectares of vineyards between 20 and 35 years old produce White, Red, and Peluda (Hairy) Grenache, with organic certification since 2008.
From grape to bottle: absolute control of the process

Vins Algars manages every production phase without intermediaries. The Tarragó family cultivates their own vineyards, harvests manually, and controls the winemaking process until the final packaging. This vertical model guarantees complete traceability and allows every detail to be adjusted according to the characteristics of each harvest.
The winery has occupied the same space since 1940, on Algars Street in Batea, which gives the project its name. Antonio and Nicanor Tarragó Solé started the business after the Civil War, a legacy continued by the new generations using updated ecological viticulture criteria.
Privileged terroir between winds and limestone
The thirty-two hectares are distributed across different altitudes within the municipality. The estates near the Algars River feature stony limestone soils, while the elevated plots show a clay-limestone composition. This geological diversity provides distinct nuances in acidity, aromatic concentration, and minerality.
The continental Mediterranean climate, with a pronounced temperature range, conditions the ripening process. The Cerç—a cold northeast wind— and the Garbí —a humid southern current— regulate the temperature and naturally prevent fungal diseases, reducing the need for phytosanitary interventions.
Three lines that express the Grenache landscape
The Sílvia*Fernando collection explores Garnatxa Peluda (Hairy Grenache) in limited editions that combine old and young vines. The Trufes range —named after a plot recovered in 1993— includes Flor de Trufes, 100% monovarietal White and Red Grenaches aged in oak barrels that seek the pure expression of the variety. The Algars line uses middle-aged vines and presents a more accessible profile, featuring the logo’s image: the intertwined initials F/S forming a bunch of grapes.
All wines are made exclusively with estate-grown grapes, without external purchases, and are shipped directly from the winery to preserve optimal conservation conditions.
